My idea is to implement some sort of pre-purchase, or pre order of items before they are released. This is mainly focused on games, but can apply to other items as well. Here is an example:
Many world of warcrafters are eagerly waiting the next expansion, wrath of the lich king. Have that item available as "Pre-order", and as a condition, a minimum of 20 pts deposit is required to reserve your copy. This deposit would go towards the purchase point amount of the game (lets say the game is 50 pts. you pre-order with the 20, and when the game is officially available, 30 more pts are required to fulfill this order). Also, make the pre-order NON REFUNDABLE. This is to prevent people from filling out pre-orders with having no intent on actually fulfilling the full purchase.
This can be tracked by the prize claim center. If you did pre-order, and it becomes fully available, the prize claim script could see that a pre-order was made, and adjust the needed/spent points accordingly.
Just an idea to help improve the site.
