View Full Version : Rewards1 Referral Scheme Update!
Pyros

Alright guys this is probably one of the largest and most important changes we've done to Rewards1. At the starting of September we will be changing the referral scheme for Rewards1 into a tiered system and removing the refer-a-thon. The new referral system will work as follows: At the end of each month users that get above 50 active referrals will have a referral bonus of 25% for the MONTH FOLLOWING and users that get above 200 active referrals will have a referral bonus of 30% for the MONTH FOLLOWING. If you calculate the extra gains, a 25% or 30% referral bonus pretty much translates to a 25% or 50% gain in your earnings.
Before everyone goes crazy over the fact that we've removed the refer-a-thon, we want to explain just why this system is better. For the most part users that win the refer-a-thon are only in the top 10 and can only win set amounts. Using the new system ANY user that refers a sufficient amount can earn extra cash from the percentage gain alone.
Using some made up numbers we can see the gains. Assume a user earns $20 a month and gets over 50 active referrals. If his referral earnings remain static then he would be earning $20 + $5 REGARDLESS of whether or not he places in the refer-a-thon. If this same user actually earns $20 a month but gets over 200 active referrals (and therefore 30% referral bonus) he would be earning $20 + $10 assuming his monthly earnings remain static. A good rule of thumb to calculating what you will earn instead is to multiply your monthly earnings by 1.25 OR 1.5 depending on whether you obtain a 25% or a 30% referral bonus.
Using our example calculations, and our rules on how to place into these new tiers, there can be any number of winners. If you try hard enough with your referral earnings you can earn a good chunk more than you normally would! Its a win-win situation for everyone in the end.
I believe the last issue to address is that, although we are removing the refer-a-thon, contests may still happen every now and then. It is simply the fact that we will not be having a standing contest that users can place at the end of the month.

Here's a question, are the referral earnings percentage permanent once we've reached the goal?

Nope, its per month, you need to keep it up if you wanna keep the percentage
for most steady users though its not too big of a problem

well in terms of calculating it you earn more from than than you would if you got the referathon for the big referrers up top (go calculate it)
AND at the same time a lot of the smaller referrers can earn quite a bit extra

personally, I suck at refs.. If I tried, I could easily get 50 referrals in a month.. but they won't be active... So that, is hard for me to do... that's why I don't like this very much. I wish when you got to 50 active refs, you STAY at 25%, and so on and so forth... :/ oh well. :p

Does active referral mean that the person just needs to do one offer at least? Or is there a certain amount?
Billinator
08-18-2009, 08:22 AM
He/she needs to complete at least one offer. So say if you referred 10 people, those 10 people must complete one offer AND get the credit in order for you to have active refs, just don't wait until they get active, keep getting refs.

I think overall this is a good move as it will help new users get some rewards for their referrals. Before lots of people wouldn't try hard with refs because they would think that they could never get into the top 10. But this way they can get rewards and have a target to follow.

Lol mind explaining this? Top referrers now make less. People who can't refer much (most) aren't affected. The only people who gain from this are those who can refer 50+ active referrals a month, and it's only 5-10 cents per dollar, which isn't much. If anything, this is just a way for R1 to make more money and give less in return. I sure hope those contest you have are worth a lot of money to make up for all that you're basically taking away. I highly doubt it though. I can see any contests till next summer amounting to very little. And I know, I know.. it's not your company, but I'm just saying.

no its set rates of 20%, 25%, and 30%. it is RESET EACH MONTH. depending on how many active refs you earn.
JAN: 20% ref bonus/earn 50 active refs
FEB: 25% ref bonus/earn 20 active refs
MAR: 20% ref bonus/earn 20 active refs
APR: 20% ref bonus/earn 200 active refs
MAY: 30% ref bonus/earn 150 active refs
JUN: 25% ref bonus....
get it now?

Top referrers are making more.
While you DIDNT see the numbers I do and since i cant disclose it i cant do much. But trust me, top referrers earn MORE than they will using the referathon. and that is inclusive of almost all the top referrers.
smaller referrers will also earn quite a bit more ( relative ) as i've stated its a 25 % or 50 % increase in your earnings if you hit the levels correctly. Big referrers will get a 50% increase GUARANTEED aka multiply it by 1.5
I think in the end there might be SOME losers and those are the mediocre to tier referrers but even then... the referathon didnt give much more cuz it scaled down REALLY fast.

ok ill try to make it simpler without the example.
For EACH MONTH we will:
1) check if you have less than 50, 50 to 199, or greater than 200 active referrals.
2) we will set your referral percentage to 20, 25, or 30% depending on what you get.
3) when that month ends we do it all over again.

Pyros
WTF Pyros? That's not accurate. When I say top referrers I mainly meant the top 3. Those being:
1st place ($100)
2nd place ($75)
3rd place ($60)
According to what you wrote:
If I get 0-49 active referrals this month = next month I get 20% ref earnings
If I get 50-199 active referrals this month = next month I get 25% ref earnings
If I get 200+ active referrals this month = next month I get 30% ref earnings
Now lets take this into account with numbers:
As of September 1st, for the first month, they are taking a $60-100 loss unless you are counting Augusts results. I'm sure the top referrers get at least 200 active referrals. The 20% they are making is not to be counted because that is already what they made in the first place. So they're only getting an actual 10% increase. 10 more cents per dollar. $600 x 10% = $60. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it most likely take over 1000 active referrals for them to add up to $600-1000? And out of that you only get your $60-100. All that JUST for them to make up the $60-100 a month they were already GUARANTEED. Now they have to count 100% on their referrals. So chances of them making more money are very slim. Yes, they are making MORE from their referrals, but LESS overall. And out of this, R1 is increasing the number of active referrals were getting because we at least want that 5% increase, thus increasing the money they make, and giving less in return. So again, I hope they have a lot of contests otherwise they're actually taking away overall but making it sound like we're really making more. The only people who benefit are those that didn't really get to the top, and again, their increase is almost nothing.

Your math is wrong lol
I will explain very succinctly!
Lets assume Mr. Big (our top referrer) earns $1000 (for easy calculations) a month from Rewards1 through his referrals. He clearly gets over 200 active refs so he will definitely ALWAYS hit the 30% referral rate.
In order to make these very simple and practical we will assume that Mr. Big can do nothing better or worse about his referral earnings. They are a static $1000 EVERY MONTH. This will properly set up our problem and solution.
If we still had the referathon Mr. Big would be earning $1000 + $100 (from the referathon, giving him a total of $1100. Every month. Because it is a static gain he can only ever get $1100 a month.
With the new system in place you must take into consideration of what he gets and how he gets it. So Mr. Big always earns $1000 with a 20% referral rate. Now we need to know exactly what his referrals earn each month for him. That would be $1000 * 5 = $5000, so his referrals always earn $5000 each month and from that $5000 Mr. Big gets $1000. AKA he earns 20% of $5000.
But now that we've changed the referral bonus to 30%, we need to adjust how much Mr. Big earns. Now his referrals ALWAYS earn $5000 every month. So we take $5000 * 0.3 = $1500. Mr. Big earns $1500 with a 30% referral bonus.
Now to crunch the other interesting numbers.
Oringinally Mr. Big earned 1000 a month. now he earns 1500 a month.
1000 * 1.5 = 1500, basically Mr. Big is earning 50% more than he was earlier.
Comparatively if it was the referathon. He would be earning $400 more than that. 1500 - 1100 = 400. That make sense now >.>?

No, I am 95% sure my math is not wrong.
And there are 3 problems with your example. One - you use big numbers to make the results look significant. Two - static numbers are unrealistic. Three - You are basing your scenario on a 5:1 ratio. 5 being the amount of money you make and 1 being the number of referrals, which again, is unrealistic. How about we work with realistic numbers? 0.2:1 perhaps. And THAT is a good ratio btw.
Lets say our top referrer makes about $200 ref earnings + $100 contest. I know how the math works, you don't have to explain that. But for everyone else reading I'll show it. $200 x 5 = $1000 x 0.3 = $300. All in all, it's exactly the same as he did before except for when we get into the number or referrals he'd actually have to achieve. 5 referrals per dollar. That's 1000 referrals. Wait.. 1000? Isn't that what I said when you said my math was wrong? Oh and it's not even ONLY 1000, it's 1000 ACTIVE referrals. I'm sure our top referrer doesn't make 1000 active referrals a month. And again, that's using a realistic but GOOD ratio. Most ratios are 0.1:1 or 0.15:1. And in order to achieve anything beyond their usual they would need over 1000 referrals. It's not looking too good for them now is it?

you're right about the ratios BUT you're wrong about not keeping the earnings static. if the user does just as well and nothing changes but the referral percentage then the user earns more.
in reflection to the referathon you need to remember that you are NOT top referrer so you dont know their earnings and i would not be one to divulge their earnings. They know their own earnings and "we" know their earnings and from the calculations done they DO win more if they use this system.
the biggest loss will potentially come to the user in ranks 5 to 9 of the referathon but we made it guaranteed so that the top user will gain more.
and while you might think that the ratios matter, they really dont. the reason being? top referrers ALWAYS understand the ratio they've been working at it for ages and they know that is the referral ratio. They just EARN that much regardless.

no its set rates of 20%, 25%, and 30%. it is RESET EACH MONTH. depending on how many active refs you earn.
Pyros

1000 * 1.5 = 1500, basically Mr. Big is earning 50% more than he was earlier.

Lol, using stats from my past months, and me winning the first place in the referral contest multiple times, I can say that the top referrer would earn more than they would in a referral contest, lol.
Louis
08-23-2009, 12:26 PM
So the winner earns 10% of his refs instead of $100.
The winner earns at least $200 a month from refs, so his ref's make at least $1000.
He could either have $200+ and his $100 bonus or $200+ and an extra 10% ($100+)
As long as the winner earns more than $200 (Like they always do) then they are earning more than they would in the ref-a-thon.
Seems good to me, since I always get 50+ referrals a month.

lol ... just 2 days ago ^^
anyways its possible. you just need to work on it. remember referrals will pay out probably more than 10 cents if they actually DID something ;D
and definitely not in 2 years.
here's a lil history lesson too! ;D back then we used to run "referathon contests" (you can still see if it you know where to look) but basically we awarded the top 10 referrers each up to $100 per month.
we changed that to a referral bonus % schema noting that larger referrers WILL earn more than that $100 bonus per month.
moral of the story? you can definitely earn a PS3's worth in under 2 months.

Pyrosi really cant say anything else now lol............but automatic cash for a referral completing their first offer would be a good idea

lol, thats exactly what we do.
you get cash when your referrer does any offer and "completes" it.
and thats pretty much instant.

Pyrosi think u should bring back the refer-a-thon but keep the bonus % scheme as well........like u said defenatly a ps3's worth in two months that was before wasnt it? lol because u could win up to $100
now u cant.

lol back then all you could win was the $100
but if you were one of the big referrers and you calculated out 30% ref rate per month ;D you totally earned more than $100, that was the reasoning in switching it. (you backwards calculated that you can probably figure out how much a successful referrer should be getting a month :P)
as a result we probably wont have "both" since one was just the better replacement of the other.
we most likely wont adapt a "monthly" referathon contest anymore, but it wont mean that we wont hold referral contests as well.
