In the ones you posted it just looks like you're cropping/resizing a picture and putting some text on there..

He doesn't do anything that can't be ripped or resided is what he's trying to say.
If people want what your doing, all they have to do is google their image and resize it and thats it.
Also the whole not getting paid thing and doing it for free, EVERYONE does forum graphics for free, because they enjoy doing what they do. Your not going to get paid, nor is anyone going to pay you unless your working for a company/community of some sorts, and the work better be **** good if your getting paid to do it.
I'd learn how to use CS3 if your actually trying to get interested in graphic design.

Just think instead of ripping and resizing images, you can learn how to do things like this and be praised for it.
