View Full Version : A concern about IP addresses.....
From what I understand, this place works off of your IP addy, which is all fine and dandy, but here is my concern....
Even though I am on DSL, when ever I have to restart my modem (locks up once in a while), I get a new IP address.
how will this affect me here? Will I get banned because my modem locked up at one point in time?
edited....ment modem, not router, lol

That's odd, you should retain the same IP address every time you restart your modem. If you are sure that a different IP comes up, I recommend you send a ticket to Rewards1 on this problem.
yea, it is odd, being that it is supposed to be persistant, but the last three times I had to reboot it (before joining here) I would get a different IP address from it each time. well, if it ever does happen, I will have to send a support ticket.
thanks for the prompt reply eternallight!

Not everyone has a Static IP. Some people do have a Dynamic which changes all the time. I think you're fine because the site doesn't read your IP only. It also takes into account your ISP
right, but that is the thing, its not static, but persistant, meaning that I *should* retain the IP in case of power cycles, outages, ect. (unless it is turned off for extended periods of time, THEN it should change) but I dont.
Anyway, I guess I am not going to worry about it until the time comes up to worry about it.

Would I be ok then if I used this computer at home and also at Uni?

No, that's not ok. You can only log on from one computer.

But wouldnt it have a different IP address AND a different ISP?

Wait, if it's the same laptop at home and at your Uni, then I think it's fine. Using the Uni's computers is a definite no-no.
