the referrals saga, part 1

hey guys i just wanted to talk on a topic thats been brought up a bit lately - i'm talking about referrals.. the contest has sparked some interesting topics about referrals, and i'm sure some of you may be wondering how these guys do it. well, in all fairness i'm not going to give away details but i do have some things i want to say..

first of all, congrats to user 1747 - Ryan... i believe thats TheRiGuy? lemme tell ya folks, this guy is crazy! he's got, well.. a lot of referrals! lol! i got really curious (because i also make almost all of the points i have from referrals. i'm canadian too. ;) ) and did some investigating..

how does he do it? thats not for me to say, but i will share with you my experiences. i pretty much started referrals to this site not long after it finished beta.. in the beginning i pushed it quite a bit, but not so much lately too much to do.. its hard to push a brand new site no one's ever heard of it.. i actually think its easier now - still small but not unknown..

anyways, on to the juicy parts.. in my biggest account i have 755 referrals, with a referral earnings of close to 300 points. its about 3.5 months old. i just got my new xbox360 courtesy of the dell deal ($400 - console + halo3, forza2 & marvell alliance + hdmi cable). :D

i'm not here to brag, but to actually give u guys a bit of a hint on how i did it. see the thing is there are guys out there that make way more than me even!

so here's what i did.. the biggest account was a blog tutorial that i posted around... for some people rewards1 seems scary to use... for others, they might think its a scam. different people have different reasons why they might not use it, so i wrote up a tutorial to explain the whole process. this shows the people scared to use it how easy it really is, and it shows the people who think its a scam hey this site is legit!

basically you hold their hand through the whole process.. if people came from a link that just says "free wii points" they're just gonna end up leaving after the first page loads right? but if you say "click here to learn how to get free wii points" then thats a whole different story..

the only other thing i wanted to mention is that no i'm not entered in the contest. the chief didn't think it'd be fair that i get to enter.. its ok, i have my shiny new 360 upstairs.. :p

anyways, i've called this a saga because .. well, i already feel like i've written an essay... but also because there's a lot more to referrals than just writing blogs - in fact some people make a living out of just doing this kind of stuff! in the next segment i'll talk about google.. :D

well, to be fair setting up a step by step tutorial is only half the answer... you still need to find a good way to distribute the tutorial.. i'll leave that up to everyone to figure out.. (hint, a few have already been mentioned and the the site)

Very nice descriptive topic. This will help out a lot of people when grabbing referrals. I've racked up 40 of now by this way and some other ways as well. :thumbs

lol!!! Does rewards1 offer you points for your referrals referrals cause if they do then you should be racking up some good points from the 2nd place guy...:P

indeed it does take work...

one hint is to make yourself stand out... make your forum sig a little different. i think i mentioned before, but if your sig says "free wii points" which links to your ref link (which is what most people do) - might not work so well... but if you put "let me show you how to get free wii points" and link to your tutorial... you get the idea. this is called "qualifying" your traffic ;)

if you guys want, show me some samples of how you're linking and maybe myself and others here can offer some tips..

i type this on nintendo vids i watch and it seems to be working for me but after you start to see the same vids over and over... it starts to get boring and anoying and as soon as this contest is over i'm gonna look for a better idea for referrals :thumbs

Yeah, Youtube would work well, I'm thinking making a basic video with Windows Media Player explaining the Rewards1 system and just spam the bulletin boards of my friends to get referrals. :banana

Only way is when someone who signs up under you completes 1 offer, you will see their name under History.

I have figured out a great way to get referrels! so obvious! i started the idea last night at 11pm and By 11am I had an extra 3 referells...

I'm not in this december comp, but i wont tell my method for those who are competing. Maybe mines the same as theriguy.

As soon as its over i hope all our methods can be shared.
